Our story

During the outbreak of the Corona virus, Tal Harel, a 22-year-old girl from Holon, started volunteering and delivering hot food to the elderly in her city. During her volunteering, Tal discovered that there is a real need to alleviate loneliness among the elderly, and decided to make visits based on joy and closeness by baking cakes. Tal managed to recruit volunteers from all over the country who service 10,000 elderly people.

In the past year, she managed to arrange 13,000 meetings. Today we operate in 14 cities across the country: Nahariya, Haifa, Jerusalem, Herzliya, Petah Tikva, Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv Jaffa, Holon, Rishon Lezion, Nes Ziona, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Ofakim and Beer Sheva.

The cake is only the proxy to create the connection, the attention is the main thing

טולי ויפה מחובקים

Ateret is the manager of the city of Petah Tikva, and she shares:

A surprise cake makes me feel alive It is very easy to get drawn into the stressful routine of work, school and home. Every holiday, I get a little out of my stressful routine and do a little volunteering for another person. A small mitzvah that brings with it a lot of joy and love. The hug I receive from the elderly woman I visit, the joy on the face of the elderly woman I sit with and share a bit of cake, the phone call the next day from the daughter who lives abroad, the blessing the holocaust survivor would give me as I leave is enough. These moments create a feeling of happiness in me, that reminds me every time why I volunteer with Surprise Cake, and how fun it is that I was given the privilege to give.
